Sans name or signature, of course. It's a Secret Santa thing after all! Inside the parcel, though, is a pair of black leather gloves. Merry Christmas, Koujaku.]

[ even though Koujaku, Aichi and Aoba weren't her 'real' family, it would have been too rude to not get them anything. especially since koujaku had been looking out for aoba during the Landlord's awful prank!

...still, in the spirit of the season (and because she had seen so many of them in stores all around), Koujaku's gift is something absolutely no one wants to get: an ugly holiday sweater that belongs in a box, under the floorboards but is wrapped up on his bed anyway. a note is taped to the wrapping paper (the exact same kind she wrapped Aoba's sweater in; shiny, with snowflakes). ]

[ aoba's not really good at gift giving, and he always has trouble coming up with ideas-- he thinks he did okay this year though, all things considered! he gets koujaku a new obi. there's also a locket in there, but for some reason it's empty. there's also a time delayed voice message left on koujaku's phone.

Hey, Koujaku. [ an awkward pause. ] Merry Christmas. Things have been complicated lately, haven't they? A lot of stuff happened, and I was pretty worried for a while about everything. But... because you were with me-- [ another beat, like aoba's fumbling for his words. ] It made it a lot easier, knowing that. So thank you. [ quietly: ] I love you.

[ he's not a hundred percent what aoba wants to talk about, but he has a strong feeling. he's been avoiding it, as he thinks that's what is best for aoba. he's accepted taking full responsibility for everything. he's messed up their friendship, and he hopes aoba doesn't hate him. it's selfish, he thinks, after everything he's done... he just wants aoba not to hate him. how could he ask something like that, though? he ruined what they had for a few weeks of selfishness.

it's easy to think this stuff over, blaming himself repeatedly. as he walks to the back of the house, he doesn't look upset at all. he looks mostly composed, a smile on his face. he looks like nothing happened between them, like the world just carried on and somehow it never happened. yet inside, it's the exact opposite, and he's just acting this way because he thinks it's what's best for aoba.

when he sees him from a distance, he gives a little wave. ]
